ABOUT THIS YEAR'S HARVEST WINE CELEBRATION ARTIST, SYLVIA THOMPSON - The painting for this year’s 29thAnnual Livermore Valley Harvest Wine Festival is titled, “Swaying to the Feel of Wine Country.”  The work was created by Sylvia Thompson, who is a part-time resident of nearby Sunol, CA.  After spending time in Livermore wine country, Sylvia was inspired. From these experiences, came the concept for this year’s painting.  It is based on the laid back ambiance of tasting wine and listening to music at many of the area’s wineries. Sylvia has been fascinated with art since she was a young child as she grew up in the New Orleans area.  As a teenager, she began painting seriously.  She graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree.  After an internship in architecture, she went back to her passion – art.  In 1995, she started her decorative painting business focusing on artistically rendered faux finishes and murals.  Sylvia put her custom paintings on the back-burner to develop her business.  During that time her custom painting work was largely done for fun and for several charitable causes. In 2009, Sylvia’s life took a major turn.  She visited the wine country of California and rediscovered her passion of art and love.  She was so inspired by the wine country and her rediscovered relationship that she felt the need to create.   Having saved wine foils from the tops of wine bottles, Sylvia loved the look and feel of them.  She started incorporating the foils into her work loving the texture and added dimension that the foils added to her paintings.  The subjects of her paintings range from wine themes to those based on New Orleans jazz music, architecture, and culture.
