A Moment 140 Years in the Making: Livermore Valley Wine Country Named 2026 American Wine Region of the Year

Some moments deserve more than a toast. They deserve a standing ovation.

This is one of them.

Livermore Valley Wine Country has officially been named Wine Enthusiast’s 2026 American Wine Region of the Year, one of the wine industry’s most prestigious national honors.

And while we couldn’t be more thrilled to share this news, the significance of this moment goes far beyond an award.

It’s a celebration of our history. A recognition of our present. And an extraordinary vote of confidence in our future.

For a wine region that has spent generations quietly making history, breaking new ground, and producing exceptional wines, this recognition is something truly special.

And for the people who have dedicated their lives to making Livermore Valley what it is today, it’s a moment worth savoring.

A Legacy Worth Celebrating

Long before Livermore Valley became a destination for wine lovers, it was helping shape the future of California wine.

Our region’s winemaking story stretches back more than 180 years, with pioneering families who recognized something extraordinary in this valley’s soils, climate, and potential.

In 1889, a Livermore Valley wine earned the Grand Prize at the Paris Exposition, putting California winemaking on the international stage. The Wente family went on to establish a Chardonnay legacy that would influence vineyards around the world, while Concannon Vineyard helped shape the history of California Cabernet Sauvignon.

These weren’t simply milestones for Livermore Valley. They were defining moments for the American wine industry.

And that pioneering spirit never disappeared.

It lives on today in the families who have cared for these vineyards for generations, the independent winemakers who have taken a chance on their dreams, and the growers who understand that great wine begins with an unwavering respect for the land.

Our history is remarkable. But perhaps the most exciting part of this recognition is that our story is still being written.

A Wine Region That Has Never Stopped Evolving

One of the things that makes Livermore Valley so special is its ability to honor tradition while embracing what’s next.

Today, our region is home to approximately 50 wineries, from historic estates to small, family-owned operations, each bringing its own personality, perspective, and passion to the valley.

In recent years, our wine community has made a concerted effort to elevate quality, encourage innovation, and strengthen collaboration throughout the region.

That commitment can be tasted in the glass.

In 2025, Livermore Valley officially embraced Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc as its signature varietals, two wines that beautifully express the character and potential of our growing region.

At the same time, our winemakers continue to explore new possibilities, experiment with lesser-known varieties, and produce wines that are earning increasingly impressive recognition.

Livermore Valley is also home to one of the highest percentages of women winemakers in the country, another reflection of the talent, diversity, and forward-thinking spirit shaping our future.

And through events, educational initiatives, partnerships, and shared experiences, our wine community continues to find new ways to introduce the world to everything this valley has to offer.

We are immensely proud of where we’ve been.

But we’re equally excited about where we’re going.

The People Behind the Pour

If there’s one thing we hope this award communicates to the world, it’s that Livermore Valley has always been about more than wine.

It’s about people.

It’s about the vineyard crews who begin their work before sunrise. The growers who spend their lives learning the nuances of the land. The winemakers who pour their knowledge, creativity, and hearts into every vintage.

It’s about the tasting room teams who remember your name, the small business owners who champion their neighbors, and the families who have built something extraordinary through years of hard work and determination.

It’s about a community that genuinely celebrates one another’s successes.

Because here in Livermore Valley, collaboration isn’t just something we talk about. It’s something we practice.

Our wineries share knowledge. Our businesses support one another. Our community comes together to celebrate, to give back, and to help the entire region thrive.

That spirit is woven into everything we do.

And it’s one of the reasons this national recognition means so much.

This award doesn’t belong to one winery, one winemaker, or one generation. It belongs to an entire community.

Every person who has planted a vine, poured a glass, welcomed a guest, shared an idea, or believed in the potential of Livermore Valley has helped make this moment possible.

Wine Tasting as It Should Be

There are many extraordinary wine regions in the United States, each with its own story to tell.

What makes Livermore Valley different?

We believe it’s the experience.

Here, exceptional wine and genuine hospitality have always gone hand in hand.

You can spend an afternoon tasting award-winning Cabernet Franc, discover a beautiful Sauvignon Blanc, enjoy a picnic overlooking the vineyards, or find yourself in conversation with the very person who made the wine in your glass.

You don’t need to be a wine expert to feel at home here.

You just need to enjoy good wine, good company, and the pleasure of discovering something wonderful.

It’s what we’ve always meant when we say, “Wine tasting as it should be.”

And it’s especially meaningful to see that philosophy recognized by Wine Enthusiast on a national stage.

In its announcement, Wine Enthusiast celebrated not only Livermore Valley’s historic contributions to American winemaking, but also the collaborative spirit, innovative producers, distinctive wines, and welcoming hospitality that continue to define the region today.

It’s an acknowledgment of something our community has believed for a very long time: that world-class wine and an approachable, authentic experience aren’t mutually exclusive.

In Livermore Valley, they belong together.

It reminds us that the work matters. That the people matter. That staying true to who you are while continuing to grow and evolve can lead to extraordinary things.

But perhaps most importantly, it reminds us that Livermore Valley’s greatest strength has always been its community.

This award is not the finish line.

It’s the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
