Learn:
Port wines are typically served as a dessert wine and can be characterized as a sweet red varietal.  However, these wines are also widely produced as dry, semi-dry and white wine variations.  These wines are made from a number of varietals including: Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Zinfandel (to name a few).

Taste:
Also called late harvest wines, these deep elixirs provide a sweet end to any meal, while retaining just enough acidity to remain refreshing.

Pair:
Try Port wines with nuts - almonds and hazelnuts - as well as chocolate tortes, vanilla custard, peach cobbler and ricotta cheesecake.   In general, aim to pair these sweet wines with sweet desserts and light wines with light desserts.
